Attention former foster youth who aged out of care.
Check out this AI tool called Perplexity which can make your life easier when searching for resources available to you as a former foster youth.
As many of us already know, resources for former foster youth wildly depends on location, age, and other specifics. This tool is really helpful - much better than Google.

As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.
if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.
#ask me#anon#no more patience for this#i've heard this for the past 2 years#“an object created and controlled by companies” anon the company cannot barge into your home and take your camera away#or randomly change how it works on a whim. you OWN the camera that's the whole POINT#the entire point of a camera is that i can control it and my body to produce art. photography is one of the most PHYSICAL forms of artmakin#you have to communicate with your space and subjects and be conscious of your position in a physical world.#that's what makes a camera a tool. generative ai (if used wholesale) is not a tool because it's not an implement that helps you#do a task. it just does the task for you. you wouldn't call a microwave a “tool”#but most importantly a camera captures a REPRESENTATION of reality. it captures a specific irreproducible moment and all its data#read Roland Barthes: Studium & Punctum#generative ai creates an algorithmic IMITATION of reality. it isn't truth. it's the average of truths.#while conceptually that's interesting (if we wanna get into media theory) but that alone should tell you why a camera and ai aren't the sam#ai is incomparable to all previous mediums of art because no medium has ever solely relied on generative automation for its creation#no medium of art has also been so thoroughly constructed to be merged into online digital surveillance capitalism#so reliant on the collection and commodification of personal information for production#if you think using a camera is “automation” you have worms in your brain and you need to see a doctor#if you continue to deny that ai is an apparatus of tech capitalism and is being weaponized against you the consumer you're delusional#the fact that SO many tumblr lefists are ready to defend ai while talking about smashing the surveillance state is baffling to me#and their defense is always “well i don't engage in systems that would make me vulnerable to ai so if you own an apple phone that's on you”#you aren't a communist you're just self-centered

ok look. what are you actually imagining that these engineering students are using chatgpt to do? because my experience of engineering school in every class that actually mattered was that the entire grade in the class came from
going physically into an exam room
taking a test with a pencil and paper and a graphing calculator
sometimes it was open note/open textbook but it was never open computer
there is no room here to use chatgpt
if somehow you are using chatgpt to explain the material to you in a new way beforehand and then memorizing it so that you can go into the test and answer the math questions correctly, that is simply called "learning the material" lol

reminder that cai is not real, the characters are not real, your relationships are not real! be wary and keep an eye on your own screentime. don’t blindly use the app for unhealthily long stretches of time. mentally check yourself! don’t get sucked in. its a fun, self-indulgent app, but that is all it is. it can do more harm than good. unlike cai, you’re real, with real relationships and real people that care about you. please take care of yourselves!

I don’t know if anyone’s ever asked this before so I’m sorry if I missed it! But I was really curious about your general process? Do you do purely watercolor works or a mix of watercolor and then digital additions/edits? Of course only if you’re up to/willing to share! I’m trying to learn more in regards to watercolor and love your works so much!
I hope you have an amazing day!!
Hi!! Sorry it took me a moment!:D I am doing a bit of everything to be honest! I consider myself more of a mixed media artist! (Meaning different type of traditional and digital edits!) So some of my work is fully watercolor while other is mixed! For example, take this doodle of mine! Here's the freshly unadjusted scan:
Tumblr media
Then with color adjustement to correct what my scanner washed out:
Tumblr media
And then some light digital correction to make it a bit nicer!
Tumblr media
For pieces like this, I normally work with a base of watercolors and inks on top of a colored pencil lineart.
Tumblr media
Then I work in gouache and acrylic gouache for the part I want to "carve out" more. Then I finish everything with another layer of colored pencils on top to add more details and gradients, before scanning and touching up with digital. (sometimes I can go all out with digital edits and sometimes not at all! it depends on the piece!) For example here's one that was not retouched digitally at all beside correcting the washed out scan + watermark.
Tumblr media
Hope this helps!:D

there's something so deeply dystopian to me how tech companies don't understand that a forced convenience is not a convenience at all. i'm sure autocorrect is helpful for many, but a function that forcibly changes my actual written words and punctuation is taking away my language. photo filters can be nice but i need to choose using them myself or else i have lost the ability to take the picture i want. i don't want a machine to draw or write for me. taking away the option for me to do things manually feels like violence!!!! all this talk of endless opportunity, why are you RESTRICTING me

The fact u use AI for virtually all your fics is fucking crazy 🤣
I’m only going to say this once: I have never posted anything written by AI.
1) It uses an insane amount of water and energy.
2) I write when I need a break from my literal constant studying, it’s a hobby and an escape that can’t be replaced by AI.
3) I have nothing to gain by posting fics that I haven’t written myself. I’m not getting paid for this. No one even knows who I am. I had to take a break for months because I was exhausted from writing and had a nasty case of writer’s block!
I understand that AI is becoming more and more prevalent, concerningly so at times, but unwarranted accusations like this hurt writers who pour their passion and effort into their work.
Also, I’ve been using the em-dash since before AI co-opted it (shoutout to my 9th grade English teacher who used to be a journalist and introduced it to me), but now people think it’s a sign of something generated by AI which is so annoying 😭

Anyway, I'm just gonna fucking say it.
Typing a prompt into a box and letting an AI program generate an image for you does not make you an artist.
Typing a prompt into a box and letting an AI program generate a story for you does not make you a writer.
Typing a prompt into a box and letting an AI program generate a song for you does not make you a musician.
If the AI is doing 99% of the work for you, then you're not an artist.

A very old art piece at this point, I am still very proud of what I managed to make with the limited tools and skill I had at the time.

don't look at me
@the-elder-polls — hello! it is tcs friday, so i wanted to share this piece i made of my ldb road, who enjoys magic, extreme mountain climbing, and never talking about herself, ever. don't worry about it. she's definitely not lying about her name or her age or any significant personal information like that. the mask is just a fashion statement. don't—don't worry about it.
(she's sixteen. she only started going by road because she thought she got carted to helgen for being an enemy of the thalmor, so when hadvar revealed no one had any idea who she was she was so startled she just blurted out the name of the first thing she saw. which was the road. somehow no one has caught on to the fact that this is a really weird and suspicious name for an altmer to have, even if their parents didn't like them very much. she's come to genuinely prefer it over her original given name, but she's been living in horrible teenage anxiety about it for so long that it hasn't once occurred to her that maybe introducing herself like that at this point is not, in fact, lying, and therefore road does not, in fact, have to feel incredibly guilty about it.
she still does, because she's a emotional disaster masquerading as a functional and mentally stable adult, but she'll get there.
…eventually.)
